Ginger Peach Smash

I decided to name the lump in my throat; the pit in my chest. We seem to have gotten pretty familiar with each other as of late and it seemed inappropriate to not be on a first name basis. You know, like having a jovial conversation with an overly talkative (and slightly spitty) companion seated in 7B. “I’d like to know your name, please.” It gives context. Roots the ideals of the dialogue. And also, I like to guess first. You really look like a Michelle, but you tell me your name is Alison. Now I have something else to focus on in case this convo spirals into something bleak like transcending your righteous orthodoxy upon uninterested customers or trying to sell me on sporks. Out of my hands, out of your league. Out of my control, out of your mind. Anyway, back to it.

The pit lies more in the sandpaper lining of my esophagus to be precise. A dry swallow coupled with biphasic palpitations…and I’m so woefully reminded of the anxiety bubble just pining to burst. Heart burn, tachycardia. Smashing into my spine. The racing, revolving presence that prevents sleep, relaxation, productive thought. A silent, obstructive villain poking a scalding spoke at the most inopportune of times. Anytime.

Fright fights the drowsy, weary wanderer. Wonder plagues and perplexes the ever aglow mind. Another shot. Sharper this time. Hotter too.

Let’s get a refreshing beverage and chill out.

Ingredients for Ginger, Peach Smash

  • 1 large peach, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 tsp minced fresh ginger (this is not the the time for the spice or the paste)
  • 1 oz triple sec
  • 3 oz vodka
  • 2 tsp agave
  • Ice
  • Rosemary sprigs for garnish (optional, but pretty)

Method

In a small food processor, pulse together the peach, ginger and agave, until the consistency of a purée.

Fill a martini shaker 3/4 full with ice. Add triple sec and vodka along with blended peach nectar and shake about 20 times.

Put ice in 2 glasses and pour the cocktail over. Garnish with rosemary and enjoy immediately.
