Cranberry Old Fashioned

I know I have an RBF. What I didn’t learn until yesterday was that I have a RBA: Resting B* Attitude. Apparently. But it was with utter, distant, unequivocal obliviousness that I exhibit this trait. Complain if you must, but there is no antibiotic for stupidity, and I, for one am enraged with the fever of frustration.

Polite, witty, indiscriminate, and poised? Good question.

Assertive yet bubbly, candid with a botulinum toxin grin.

Implored by good sense and great scents.

Unable to forget but happily infected with an inability to remember. Modern, whimsical but classically taught.

Progressive and unobstructed forward thinking without riengs of restraint.

True, honest.

Blunt – with a face that precedes it. Uncomfortable talking about it — me.

Aggressively and genuinely, Old Fashioned.

Takes 10 min; Makes 2 drinks

Cranberry Old Fashioned Ingredients

  • 4oz Bourbon (I used Bulliet)
  • 4-5 dashes angostura bitters
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 10-15 whole cranberries, muddled
  • Juice of 2 clementines
  • Slices of clementine, for serving
  • 2 large ice cubes

Method

In a small sauce pot combine water, sugar and muddled cranberries and allow to dissolve over med-low heat to make a simple syrup. Stir, and once incorporated squeeze in the juice of 1 clementine.

Strain the syrup.

Put a large ice cube in each glass and fill with 2oz bourbon. Give each glass 2-3 dashes of the bitters.

Slowly pour in about 1 tbsp of syrup to each glass. Taste. Add more syrup if desired or a bit more clementine juice.

Garnish with orange slices.
