So I’m not the kind of person who is overly aggressive in the starstruck celebrity department. But guess who I met yesterday?!
Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto!
So cool. The Cuban and I have been looking forward to trying his new ramen and sake joint in Chinatown – ‘Momosan’ for a few months… and let me cut to the chase…we came at the right time. He was just standing there, like a regular person.
Looking at his profile I was skeptical of my own eyes deceiving me. Was my man bun sitting right in front of his man bun?
The waitress asked if I had any questions. “Is it him?” I was right!
This dude is so cool. So humble. He asked me about myself. How thoughtful. The Iron Chef asked me about myself. Adorable.
The first thing that fell out of my mouth (besides my spicy tuna roll) was how I had been watching him since I was about 12. I’m sure he understood my backhanded insult was intended as a huge compliment…
The food is insane, as you would expect.
I had the lunch special consisting of a sushi roll of my choice (spicy tuna, and no they don’t have cream cheese, I already asked for you) and the tonkotsu ramen.
Do yourself a favor and order an extra egg. I don’t know how they do it. Those jammy eggs are my favorite food on earth. The cubo ordered the pork gyoza (with scallion ginger sauce) and a similar lunch pairing.
Complete with a Kirin or Sapporo and you, my Seattleite friend, are in the know. And now I know, Morimoto.
Domo Arigato.
Have I got you all liquored up and in the mood for some raw fish? Perhaps you’d like to try my tuna niçoise salad…
In Seattle for a while? Try Italian flare from the amazing Pink Door. Or some killer pasta right up the road in Bellevue at Cantinetta. And don’t forget to stop at Le Panier for some incredible French pastries.
